3 things you need to know about the controversial Hong Kong extradition bill


The proposed controversial law would allow Hong Kong to extradite fugitives to regions where it doesn't have formal extradition arrangements, including mainland China, Macau and Taiwan.

Challengers of the extradition bill say this would mean that foreign business owners, journalists and democracy activists could be surrendered to mainland China.

Hong Kong has a separate legal system and political system to China. Being a semi-autonomous city and also part of China, Hong Kong allows citizens to enjoy liberties not protected on the mainland China. Hong Kong has separate laws that go along with the UK system and no capital punishment, unlike China.

Hong Kong protesters have spent days protesting against the proposed extradition law.

United States President, Donald Trump said he hopes things work out between China and Hong Kong.
